Engaging with School Leaders for better Student growth : Abhilasha,Lead The Change'13
“The only person you are destined to become is the person you
decide to be.”
Two years back when Abhilasha joined us for Lead The Change program(LTC), she was perhaps at the cusp of deciding that she
wanted to be the person who would contribute in making the world a better place
to live in. She went on to work at Kaivalya Foundation as a Gandhi Fellow. Her work involves engaging with government schools trying to
inculcate leadership qualities in the headmasters of the school so that they
envision for improved student learning outcome. She also provides workshops for
Students on career guidance.
Working passionately, keeping in mind concrete long and short
term goals to bring about changes for the better, Abhilasha has come a long way
in the two years that we have known her. She describes her association with Youth Alliance as, “Youth Alliance family's constant support, love and mentorship is a constant source of
energy in my life. It wasn’t just a program but a constant journey towards
self. LTC gave me wide exposure to the development sector. It
helped me unlearn perspectives I had created in my mind and instead provided me
a lens through which I got a reality picture. It also gave me a chance to meet
and be inspired from many prominent change leaders.”
Apart from the work, she is particularly passionate about livelihood creation and revival of indigenous craft. As a long term goal, she wishes to establish a social enterprise which engages Chicken work artisans to revive the old traditional chicken work and combine it with current fashion market needs. She says, "My aim is to give an economic structure to chicken artisans to gain better opportunity and rejuvenate their craft through a good business model, skill development and education."
Sure of her potential, we
wish Abhilasha love and support in all her attempts.
