Rahul Bhaiya, an SRCC graduate and a Chartered Accountant with over 10 years of corporate experience. Ridhi Didi, a graduate in commerce from LSR, Delhi and a post graduate in elementary education from TISS, Mumbai worked with Times of India & Edelweiss Securities for almost 3 years. Both of them taught in Sahyadri School (Jiddu Krishnamurthi Foundation) for one year and thereafter decided to start Swatantra Talim.
Swatantra Talim, a non-profit is working in the field of alternative education in the interior villages of Uttar Pradesh near Lucknow since July 2013. The organization's vision is to co-create every village as a “Center of Innovation” and every child as an “Innovator” facilitating social change. It currently operates two after school learning centers catering to around 150 children in the rural parts of Uttar Pradesh. The children are in the age group of 6 to 1 5 yrs with whom multi-grade-multi-level methodologies, as well as self-directed learning approaches, are being followed.
Khoj - Dabba is the outcome of their interesting methodologies.This Lab-in-a-Box equips a school with lesson plans, activities, and materials to cover Science, Math, Language and Social science standards for grades 1-8 to make students pay attention and ask questions and working on the biggest classroom management issue: “How do we keep from standing on their chairs in excitement?”
You can visit their center or volunteer at one of their center for some time to witness and understand closely the commendable work and power of change at the grassroots level. :)
